We organize several regular group runs and training sessions — rain or shine, all year round. Most of these take place in Budapest, but we also circle Lake Velence multiple times a year and visit many other beautiful spots. Our training runs are usually at a relaxed, conversational pace, always adjusted to the group — no one gets left behind. Lately, we’ve been mixing things up with speed workouts as well, for those looking to push their limits a bit.
Events
Monday Community Run
Every Monday at 6:30 PM, we meet in Budapest, in front of the Újhegyi Swimming Pool (1108, Újhegyi út 13). From there, we jog together at a comfortable pace to Óhegy Park, where the actual group run starts at 7:00 PM — you’re welcome to join us directly there too. We usually run 3–5 laps on the 1.4 km tartan track. After that, you can either head home or jog back with us to the swimming pool. The distance between the pool and the park is exactly 3 km.
This session is especially recommended for beginners or those new to running, but of course, faster runners are welcome too — they usually get in a few extra laps.
There are several water taps along the track, so there’s no need to bring a hydration vest or bottle — a collapsible cup will do just fine.
Fast Lane
This workout doesn’t have a fixed day — we usually do it once a week on a weekday. We meet at 6:00 PM in front of the Újhegyi Swimming Pool and jog together to the cinder track on Gerely Street (it’s about 4.5 km).
Once we’re there, everyone runs their own interval workout at their own pace, based on their own training plan. It’s not a competition — our only opponent is the stopwatch. The goal is to bring out the best in ourselves. That said, a bit of mutual motivation, encouragement, or a passing “Go go go!” never hurts.
There are several water taps around the track, plus changing rooms and toilets — though the opening hours of those can be a bit… unpredictable.
After the session, we cool down, snap a selfie (because if it’s not on Instagram, did it even happen?), then head back to the pool — usually at a slower pace than we came.
Friday Forest Loop
Friday evenings are for an easy spin through the Keresztúr Forest. We meet at 6:00 PM in front of the Újhegyi Swimming Pool, then head out on a 13 km loop that brings us right back where we started.
A good portion of the route runs on forest trails, but the surface is generally smooth and runnable in regular road shoes. After rain it can get a bit slick in places, so it’s worth picking your shoes accordingly.
We stick with this run all year round. In winter, headlamps come out and the whole route takes on a different feel — quieter, darker, and somehow even better.
Airport Run
Many people don’t realize just how close Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport is to Kőbánya. Our weekend long runs often take place on the dirt roads around the airport, where the light terrain makes for an ideal route. There is a bit of elevation here and there, but nothing too demanding. Shade, however, is limited to roughly the first and last six kilometers.
We usually meet on Saturday or Sunday mornings in front of the swimming pool on Újhegyi Road, with the exact details arranged beforehand on Discord or Messenger. The route starts in Kőbánya and heads toward the airport through the Keresztúr Forest, so the run begins with a particularly scenic stretch through the woods. After that comes a short asphalt section, and just after the eight-kilometer mark we reach the airport area.
Where we turn back depends on the day’s plan. Most often we cover around 10–11 kilometers before heading back, making the total distance a half marathon. Quite often, though, we continue all the way to the Vecsés end of the airport, which lies about 15 kilometers from the swimming pool — bringing the full route to 30 kilometers.
There are a few public drinking fountains along the way, but it is still worth bringing your own hydration for this run.
