Executive Board Candidates – Get to Know Them!

We will soon be electing a Vice President and new members of the Executive Board. Before casting your votes, we encourage you to get to know the candidates and read their statements, which you can find below.

István Magyar – Candidate for Vice President

Dear Angels,

I would like to respectfully submit my candidacy for the position of Vice President.

What should you know about me? I am not a founding member. In fact, I joined the Club only within the past year. I regularly run together with Club members and with the Fussbánya community, so some of you may already know me from there.

By profession, I work in IT, with a bit of a business-oriented mindset as well. I like understanding how things work and knowing the reasons behind the decisions we make. I enjoy strategic thinking, but I can also become deeply engaged in the small details when needed. Sometimes it is worth diving into the finer points to get things right.

The IT infrastructure that supports the Club has particularly caught my attention. Gábor has spoken about it before, and I would be happy to learn more about it in detail and contribute to its operation and development. I am comfortable with organization and communication, and I enjoy working with others. From time to time I come up with good ideas, and I am equally happy to support and build upon the ideas of others.

I have never served as a Vice President of an association before, and I do not have twenty years of experience behind me. I cannot promise that I will never make mistakes, but I can promise to approach my responsibilities with care, diligence, and common sense, doing my best to avoid causing any significant problems.

Kind regards,
István Magyar Magyar István

Edit Szekeres – Candidate for Executive Board Member

Hi everyone,

My name is Edit Szekeres, I am 48 years old (I have never kept my age a secret), and I have been on a lifestyle transformation journey since October 2018. As a result of this change, I have lost nearly 50 kilograms (the exact amount is around 48–49 kg), and I have been maintaining my weight since the summer of 2020.

Physical activity gradually became part of my life as the weight came off. At first, I walked a lot, and then in the spring of 2019 I very carefully started jogging (I still had quite a bit of extra weight at the time). I grew to love running, although until the spring of 2022 it came in waves—periods of enthusiasm followed by breaks, and then starting again.

The turning point came in spring 2022, when a colleague and running partner kept insisting: “Just sign up for a race already!” Eventually I did, and I completed the 5 km distance at the ALDI Women’s Run. Since I was no longer starting completely from zero, I dared to enter the 5 km distance—and it went surprisingly well. If I remember correctly, I finished in exactly 32 minutes.

From that point on, there was no stopping. Races followed one after another: 10 km already in autumn 2022, my first half marathon in August 2023. Since preparation became necessary, running turned into a regular part of my life. Along the way, I also started reading more about training, strength work, and basic conditioning, so I added strengthening and gymnastics to my routine as well. The “peak” of my running journey so far came in 2025, with two marathons (Ráckeve in spring and Budapest SPAR Marathon in autumn), followed by the Ipoly Marathon this spring. I do not plan to go beyond this distance-wise—one marathon in spring and one in autumn feels like the safe and sustainable limit for my life.

Besides running, swimming is also a regular part of my life. I started two years ago practically from scratch (I learned to swim as a child, but it never really stuck), and now I can comfortably swim 2000 meters. My big goal this year is to complete the half-distance of the Balaton Swim, and perhaps next year the full crossing.

Movement is extremely important—not just in general, but especially for me, as I work in an office environment with a predominantly sedentary job at the Kőbánya Mayor’s Office.

And this is the reason I would like to take on the role of Executive Board Member.

Thanks to my professional environment and connections, I can support the preparation of grant applications and other organizational tasks. I work best in a supporting, behind-the-scenes role.

I should honestly add that communication is not my strongest skill, but I am already able to handle small tasks (such as Facebook posts), and I am open and motivated to learn and improve in other forms of communication as well (although I may need a bit of help from the rest of you along the way).

I would like to take on this role because I want to contribute, with my own tools and knowledge, to the continued operation and development of this great community.

Thank you.

Andrea Volent – Candidate for Executive Board Member

Hi everyone 🙂

I would like to submit my application for a position on the Executive Board of Running Angels. As a committed member and a passionate runner (well... khm 😁), my goal is to actively contribute to the development of our Club, strengthen our community, and help us achieve our shared goals.

Why do I want to become an Executive Board member?

  • Community building: I would like to strengthen the bonds between members through shared activities and events.
  • Professional background: With my organizational and leadership skills, I can support operational work.
  • Commitment: I regularly take part in the life of the Club and am familiar with our values and spirit.

My main goals as a board member:
Organizing new, innovative community runs and events. Increasing membership and helping new members integrate effectively. Improving the Club’s external communication and visibility.

I believe that with my energy, motivation, and team-oriented mindset, I could be a valuable member of the board.

So far, this was written by AI 😁
You know me (some of you do, at least 😁)—everything the little robot friend wrote is true.
Joking aside, I do think this role would be a great fit for me.

Andi 🙂 Andrea Volent

Ákos Pozsonyi – Candidate for Executive Board Member

I would like to apply for a position as an Executive Board member of Running Angels Sports Club.

What I can contribute to the Club as an organization:
I have previously been involved in several civil organizations, mainly in the social and voluntary sector, both as a member and as an office holder. In addition, I have several years of experience working with grant applications and projects funded through external support.

What I gain from the Club:
A strong community, the joy of running (and sport in general), a supportive attitude, and a culture of mutual attention and care.

Why I joined:
I appreciate the concept of a community that brings together both group runs and individual achievements, while also framing them within a broader charitable mission. I consider this a meaningful direction, and I would be happy to contribute to its organization and further development with my experience—and my legs as well 🙂

Kind regards,
Ákos Ákos Pozsonyi

The election is expected to take place on 11 July 2026, in the afternoon, at Sportliget in Kőbánya. Until then, please take your time to consider who you would like to vote for.
